Review: The Event Calendar

One of the most widely used calendar plugins in WordPress is the plugin The Event Calendar.
The plugin is free to use with basic functions.

  • An overview of events in a calendar chart (month or week) and a list display.
  • The ability to filter by date and search by keyword.
  • Categorising events.
  • Google Maps maps at events.
  • Various widgets to easily display upcoming events.
  • The ability to create organisers and venues and load them into subsequent events.
  • Ability to show costs.

The with the plugin you create a special post type called Event in the familiar WordPress environment. This name, like many others, can be renamed.
When creating, only a title (name of the event), a description, a date and time, cost of the event (not mandatory), organiser and location (not mandatory), an image and a date of publication need to be entered words. After publishing, the event automatically appears in the calendar on the calendar page.

the event calendar reviewAdvantages

  • Frequently used plugin. So many users and additional features/plugins available.
  • It includes a Pro-version for sale (annual licence) with, among other things, extended filtering capability, extended function for recurring events, expansion of the standard number of impressions.
  • The plugin is suitable for translation into, for example, Dutch and can also be used on multilingual websites thanks to WPML.

Cons

  • The recurring events of The Event Calendar Pro (recurring events) do not work with the plugin Event Plus Tickets, also from Modern Tribe.
As a result, it is not possible to copy ticket along when creating a recurring event.
  • In case of problems, only a forum of sorts is available. Modern Tribe staff do respond, but often shuffle issues off to the creators of the template used or to an online wish list where you can vote up a future feature.
  • Additional plugins of The Event Calendar have annual licence fees

Conclusion

The Event Calendar is an ideal plugin for easily displaying and creating events. Especially if the template used is compatible (e.g. Avada), the layout can be made to your liking. There are also several plugins available that add extra functionality.
However, if functions are needed outside the functions of the basic plugin or additional plugins are required, then this cannot reasonably be made without undermining the stability of the plugin. In other words, as long as the standard functions are used, there is no better plugin in this area.
