Review: The Event Calendar

One of the most used calendar plugins in WordPress is The Event Calendar plugin.
The plugin is free to use with the basic features.

  • An overview of events in a calendar card (month or week) and a list display.
  • The ability to filter by date and search by keyword.
  • Subdividing events into categories.
  • Google Maps tickets at the events.
  • Various widgets to easily show the upcoming events.
  • The ability to create organizers and locations and load them at later events.
  • The ability to show costs.

With the plugin you create a special post type in the familiar WordPress environment, called Event. This name, like many other things, can be renamed.
When creating, all you need to enter is a title (name of the event), a description, a date and time, costs of the event (not required), organizer and location (not required), an image and a date of publication. After publishing, the event will automatically appear in the calendar on the calendar page.

  • Frequently used plugin. So many users and extra functions/plugins available.
  • There is, among other things, one Proversion for sale (annual license) with, among other things, an extensive filter option, extensive function for recurring events, expansion of the standard number of impressions.
  • The plugin is suitable for translating into Dutch, for example, and can also be used on multilingual websites thanks to WPML.

Cons

  • The recurring events of The Event Calendar Pro (recurring events) do not work with the plugin Event Plus Tickets, also from Modern Tribe.
This makes it not possible to copy a ticket when a recurring event is created.
  • In case of problems, there is only a kind of forum available. Modern Tribe employees do respond, but often defer matters to the makers of the template used or to an online wish list where you can vote up a future feature.
  • Additional plugins of The Event Calendar have annual licensing fees

Conclusion

The Event Calendar is an ideal plugin for easily displaying and creating events. Especially if the template used is compatible (for example Avada), the layout can be adjusted to your wishes. There are also various plugins available that add extra functionalities.
However, if features beyond those provided by the base plugin or additional plugins are required, this cannot reasonably be achieved without compromising the stability of the plugin. In other words, as long as the standard functions are used, there is no better plugin in this area.
