Which browsers does Milcraft support with websites?2022-06-13T10:00:19+01:00

Milcraft creates websites that can be viewed on all known, recent browsers. This includes Google Chrome, Edge, Safari (IOS) and Firefox.
We do not support browsers such as Internet Explorer and Safari for Windows because we believe that this would be a disservice to the customer and visitor. Internet Explorer has already been replaced by Microsoft by Edge, the new default browser of Windows 10 and 11, and is no longer supported since June 15, 06. Safari for Windows is no longer supported by Apple at all.

Always make sure the browsers are on the latest version. This is not only for the correct display, but also that your system remains in order in terms of security.

Windows XP and Windows 7

Internet Explorer 7 and 8 are versions that can simply be updated to the latest version of Edge in Windows Vista and later.
Updating to a recent version of IE is no longer possible in Windows XP and from January 7, 2020 also no longer possible for Windows 7.
Windows XP and Windows 7 are no longer supported by Microsoft, which means that security holes can no longer be closed.
Safe internet browsing on a laptop or computer with XP is therefore no longer possible.
Internet Explorer is no longer supported by Microsoft since June 15, 06.

iOS in combination with Safari

Older versions of Apple's iOS also have an old version of Safari. Safe internet browsing is therefore no longer possible via this outdated browser and websites may not work as intended. This can be remedied by updating iOS.

Safari for Windows

Safari for Windows has not been updated by Apple for years. Safe internet browsing is therefore no longer possible via this browser and websites will not work as intended. This is of course not only the case with websites that we build.

Do you know someone with an old browser or do you have an old browser yourself? Then download the latest version of your browser today or switch to a different one:

What are the pros and cons of Office 365?2020-02-06T12:06:02+01:00

Benefits of Office 365

  1. Extensive functionalities
Office 365 is actually a server and workplace in the cloud. All documents can be edited in a web environment (also in a team), the mail is processed via this server and all documents are safely stored in the cloud. Thanks to apps such as Outlook and Office Online, Sharepoint and Teams, Office 365 offers a complete professional collaboration environment.
  2. Accessibility
In addition to the option to log in via the browser, there are also various options for use on telephone, tablet, PC or Mac. For extra security, 2FA can also be set up. This is additional authentication via SMS or the Authenticator app.
  3. Attractive rates
Our hosting packages allow you to send emails as standard. However, these mailboxes share space with the website (2 or 4 GB). Office 365 mail, for example, costs a few euros per month, but offers a very large mailbox of 50GB. For an additional charge, cloud storage of 1 TB (1000 GB), always the latest versions of Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Word, etc. and Sharepoint Team sites, is possible.
  4. Limited investment in hardware and software
In the past, achieving the above was an expensive adventure. With Office 365 this is often not necessary because much of it runs via Microsoft servers.
  5. Central management of documents and information
Users with an administrator account can manage data structures and permissions for other users. Other platforms often do not have this structure.
  6. Microsoft Partner
Milcraft works intensively with Mooij Werkt. Mooijwerkt is a Microsoft Partner Silver Small and Midmarket Cloud Solutions. Mooij Werkt advises on the choice, takes care of all the setup and is the point of contact for questions once everything is running.
  7. Compatibility
Office 365 has seamless integration with Office products such as Word and Excel. For example, you can save documents directly to the cloud from these programs.
  8. Spam and virus protection
As standard, Microsoft Office 365 has a good spam filter that helps automatically stop spam and viruses via email.
  9. Different types of subscriptions
Every company is different. Not every employee needs the same package. It is possible to purchase a different package per employee. Subscriptions can also be upgraded or downgraded later
  10. Always the latest version of Word, Outlook, Excel and other programs
With an Office 365 Premium license, you always have the latest version of Word, Excel, Outlook and other Office software.
  11. Test license
At Mooij Werkt it is possible to purchase a test license. When this expires, a final choice can be made.
  12. Customer satisfaction
Without exaggerating, almost every customer is satisfied with Office 365, even if the customer has prior doubts.

Disadvantages of Office 365

  1. Backup
Office 365 backup has limitations. An external backup is therefore recommended.
  2. Office 365 support
Microsoft's support department is in English. Due to time zone differences and the complexity of the corporate structure at Microsoft, it can be difficult to reach the right department quickly.
You can overcome this by using a Dutch-speaking Microsoft Partner, such as Mooij Werkt.

Do you have questions about Office 365? Please contact us at info@milcraft.nl or call 0172-897789.

Google and other search engines attach great importance to a sitemap. The website will not rank higher in Google, but it usually contributes to easy and fast indexing of a website. Also, more pages will often be indexed by search engines.

There are several ways to avoid having to create and maintain a sitemap yourself plugins available.
For WordPress these are free to use plugins such as Google XML Sitemaps or as part of the plugin SEO by Yoast. The latter is preferred when using Yoast.

Yes, that is possible, provided the agreement allows this. This means that, for example, you have concluded an annual contract and you want to downgrade or terminate it prematurely.

I have lost my WordPress password. What now?2020-01-30T10:45:25+01:00

If you press at the login screen of your website "Forgot your password?" then you can enter the email address of your user account and click “Create new password” to press.

The WordPress login screen can usually be found at domain name/wp-login.php, for example https://www.jouwdomeinnaam.nl/wp-login.php,

You will receive a link in the email to reset your password.

If you click on this link you can enter a new password. This may also be the suggested password, but you can also change it. Make sure you use a unique and difficult to remember password. This is highly recommended, especially for admin/administrator accounts.
Then press the blue button below this field with the text "Reset Password" to confirm the password. You can do this action as often as you want.

Have you completely locked yourself out because you can no longer access your email? The password and email address can also be changed via the database. Of course we can help with that too.

How do I make my images perfect for WooCommerce / WordPress?2020-02-06T14:14:13+01:00

When you have WooCommerce webshop As with other online store CMS systems, it is best to use images that have a 1/1 ratio. In other words, the image has the same number of pixels in height as in width, for example 500 by 500 pixels.

Unfortunately, many suppliers and wholesalers do not take this into account and you will often receive photos that are a different size.
There are WordPress plugins to automatically convert images to 1/1, but it often works best (especially with a relatively limited number) to simply do this in Photoshop. You also have the freedom to adjust other things and compress the image, which improves the speed of the website.

Below is a video on how to quickly perform this action in Adobe Photoshop. Press the icon with the four triangles at the bottom right to enlarge the screen.

Useful to know

  • Set an image in the main menu Photoshop > Image >Image size at 72 pdi (pixels per inch)
  • For a good display on 4k and Retina screens, always use images that are twice as large. If the image of the single product page is 2 x 500 pixels, you should use 500 x 1000 pixels for a good display on these screens. Is a photo smaller than 1000 x 1000 pixels
  • Although images of products can be found freely, they may be subject to copyright. So don't just grab photos from other websites, but ask the supplier of your products for photos.

Extras
A basic rule is that logo files and icons are saved as .PNG and photo files as .JPEG.
There are situations where this is different of course, for example for a logo in the main menu that you can save as an SVG file if you have the options to use this.

In Photoshop there are also so-called “actions” or in English "Actions" possible to adjust the canvas of your images on your computer in batches.
For this, check it out topic on Stackoverflow.com and the website from Adobe.

A Photoshop license is now calculated per month. You will then always have the most recent version. There are various options and there is usually a discount if you pay annually. Look here for prizes.

Is a hosting package with 2 GB or 4 GB of storage sufficient?2020-04-02T11:29:38+01:00

Our Managed WordPress Hosting includes 2 GB storage / 50 GB data traffic and Managed WooCommerce Hosting includes 4 GB storage / 100 GB data traffic. 2 GB storage is more than sufficient for 90% / 95% websites. 4GB for most WooCommerce installations.
Data traffic means: the amount of files in MB / GB that visitors download with your package. The more visitors and larger/heavier the website, the more data traffic this generates.

Most of the time you will only go over storage when using IMAP email (IMAP is a mail setting that allows phone and computer synchronization, and stores everything on the server.). Even for websites with many photos that are not optimized for the web, 2 GB of storage can be tight. The same applies to websites with web shops or many products. But we can always make adjustments here.

A useful tool for keeping track of many and long passwords is KeePass.
If you still want to replace the password, you can do so in Roundcube settings > password. Please note that if you change the password in Roundcube, it will also change for your mail client on your PC, laptop, tablet and/or telephone.

Third party billing fraud and other practices2022-07-11T11:38:34+01:00

It has been around for many years: people trying to cheat you out of money by sending invoices for things that you do not purchase from them or attempting to sell overpriced services.
Below are some examples:

Invoice for a non-purchased domain name
Which domain name is often not even listed.
For example, a domain name through us often costs less than €15, but these rogue parties will happily send an invoice of €100 or more.
By keeping the invoice as vague as possible, they hope that the invoice will pass inspection and be paid. The amount is often too low to really do anything with it in terms of taking steps.
Below is an example of such an invoice.

Email that someone wants to claim a domain name with your company name
In this case, they send an email that someone else wants to claim a domain name with your company name in it.
So if you use the .nl domain name and you have also claimed the .com domain name (this is always recommended), they will send an email that someone wants to register the .net domain, for example.
Long story short, but they want to “give you the opportunity to record this with them”. This is often for 10 years and/or for a very high rate.
These types of emails are pure deception. You can usually register this domain name yourself. If you ignore the email, most likely nothing will happen.
See an example of such an email below.

The advice is to always forward such emails to us if in doubt, and certainly not to pay!
It is always better to assess an email on a laptop or PC than on a telephone. You will then see more information about the sender.

Is hosting cheaper elsewhere? What's the point?2022-05-10T08:31:45+01:00

Unlike many other providers, our Managed WordPress Hosting consists of more than just hosting.
In addition to fast hosting on SSD drives, the package consists of updating WordPress, plugins and template, making a daily backup, webmail and IMAP mail, security with, among other things, a Wordfence Premium license worth $99 per year included and any malware removal. Comparing this package with an unmanaged hosting package is like comparing apples and oranges.

Only customers with full management are on our servers. This ensures that you are not bothered by unmanaged websites.
In addition, we ensure a good balance of websites on our shared servers.

The hosting servers are standing by TransIP and are managed by Microsoft Partner Silver Small and Midmarket Cloud Solutions MooijWerkt.
