WPML
WPML is a translation plugin for WordPress and has 400.000+ users. The plugin offers the ability to translate pages, posts, templates, plugins and more through a clear interface.
The plugin has many good basic options such as an easy to set language selection menu, string translation, WooCommerce support, multi-user translation.
Eand create a translation of a page or message at the touch of a button.
On every existing page or blog post, an extra box will be shown with the other languages that can be used/set. By pressing the plus there, a page variant of the Dutch page is created. Using the import button, the Dutch text including its structure (also, for example, Visual Composer formats) can be imported. These are then easy to translate. Please note that links and references to, for example, blog posts also need to be adjusted.
Translating/making websites and content multilingual always remains a big job.
But by combining translation using .po and .pot files, string translation and the ability to manually adjust different versions of pages, translating static and dynamic texts becomes a lot less complicated.
In addition, WPML also makes it possible to translate the complete admin panel. Useful if you have users, WooCommerce customers or admins who do not speak the website language.

Cons
- Certain sections, such as widget texts, MUST be translated from English. This means that if these were made in Dutch, they must first be translated into English as a base and then back into Dutch.
- The template used for the website must be WPML certified to avoid problems.
- Because everything can be translated, the plugin can seem complex.
- All links pointing to Dutch URLs must be adjusted to the URLs of the other versions of the pages.
Pricing
The plugin comes in 3 packages:
- €29 for the basic version. Simply put, not everything can be translated with this version
- €79 for a full version in combination with an annual renewal of €39 for updates and support
- €199 for the full version, but without the annual renewal price
Conclusion
With WPML you get the plugin for multilingual websites. Other (free) plugins simply do not offer enough features, compatibility and/or functionality to provide a good alternative.
