Even before registering with the Chamber of Commerce, there are things that need to be taken care of as soon as possible.
Of course, there is the website and corporate identity, but just as important is visibility outside the website, mainly Google that is.
Every day, Google indexes not only your website, but also websites outside it. In short, Google needs to be convinced that your new website is relevant enough to be shown among the first search results when users search for relevant keywords.
Especially as a new company with a new website, this is not something that can be done in a few days.
For this to happen, the company name must also appear on other websites. A basic visibility, in other words.
How to gain visibility?
There are thousands of websites to register your website and business, but it is not necessary.
All in all, though, this is a time-consuming activity. In fact, accounts often need to be created before company profiles are created.
So it is important to check mainly the important websites.
Here are some examples:
- all companies in
- www.hotfrog.nl
- tuugo.co.uk
- www.ilocal.nl
- cylex-business-guide.co.uk
- homepages
Social media
Another option for gaining visibility is, of course, Social Media. Which channels are important for your business depends on the type of business, but usually we assume Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin and Google Business, with Twitter or Pinterest added if necessary.
This too is measured by Google. Enough posts, and lots of likes, followers and shares work in a company's favour. So reason enough to invest time in this.
Almost all social media platforms also have paid ads. This can make for a flying start in the beginning.
Your network
Tap into your network and fellow entrepreneurs. Tell them you have started a new business. They might want to use your services and give a nice review. Or
dedicate a post about your new business on their own social media channels.
Links
Links to your website can help improve visibility. Links are measured by Google and thus improve its position in Google, but they can of course also provide direct visitors.
Google tip: Note that links without a backlink (backlinking) count more heavily and that the website should preferably be about the industry you are in.
Links on spam-like websites can have a negative impact.
Media
Create your own press release and distribute it via, for example Buzzpress or Newsbank.co.uk. This can also be done for free via, for example Press release.nu.
Another option is to approach websites and newspapers yourself. These can be general websites and newspapers as well as media specific to your industry.
Tips & Tricks
- When creating company profiles on websites, make sure they are not selling you a paid service when creating a company profile
- Keep in mind that you will get calls for a new website or corporate identity after creating a company profile on websites like DTG or Telefoonboek.nl. You often automatically indicate when creating profiles that this is allowed.
- Prior to creating company profiles, create a document containing all company information. It saves a lot of typing if most of this can be copied.
- Is it important for your website to be visible in Google as soon as possible? Then consider an Adwords account for paid visibility. Milcraft can assist you with this.
- Always try to keep social media channels separate from private accounts. If necessary, create a separate Gmail address to set this up that way.
With some accounts, this breakdown is not possible because the company account has to be created with the personal account. This is the case with Linkedin and Facebook, among others. - When setting up profiles, use the recommended dimensions of logo, for example. This ensures the best result.
