Websites come in all shapes and sizes. In recent years, the single page website is on the rise. And yes, these websites usually look very nice and visitors see all the information right away.
Yet there are reasons not to. Below are some of them.
- Size & load time: Having all the information on one page often does not enhance the user experience. Visitors have to scan the whole page to find what they are looking for. In addition, a large page loads less quickly. This is a particular concern on mobile devices. Often, only the main page on www.uwdomeinnaam.nl/ is substantial and subpages are a lot smaller, making them load faster, or load time. For Google, this is a very important point regarding ranking.
- SEO: The biggest problem is findability in Google. With all the information on one page, Google usually cannot properly identify what the text is about. If your services, contact details, contact form, prices, customer ratings etc are on one page, keywords will be underexposed. Websites where each keyword does have its own page generally get priority from Google in this case. Of course, you can have a 1-page website optimised. However, you are then bound to a narrower spectrum of keywords.
- Statistics: Because there is only one page, it is difficult to determine which specific content was viewed by the visitor. Analytics shows quite a less comprehensive view than with a multipage website. Whether this is bad depends entirely on what the purpose of the website is.e
All in all, a single page or one page website is a great solution for events, foundations or other organisations. A one page website is also recommended for targeting specific keywords. This is due to the comparatively low cost of creation and maintenance.
If you, as a ZZP or SME, want to display a complete overview of your services, a multi-page website is more obvious.
